The Iyengar method was developed by the living yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar. Throughout a long career defined by Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, Iyengar Yoga teaches strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, concentration and meditation. Iyengar Yoga is a complete approach to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual transformation, bringing physical health and vitality, mental clarity, wisdom, and emotional serenity.  I do not stretch the body today, which I used to do in my thirties, fifties, all these years; now I stretch my intelligence in my body, to expand it, so that it is the intelligence that stretches my body.”

Precision in action is yoga”Iyengar Yoga is characterized by an emphasis on precision of alignment in the yoga postures, the use of props to help students of all ability levels achieve correct alignment, and an understanding of the therapeutic potential of yoga. Yoga builds useable strength, increases flexibility, teaches how to focus your attention, and relieves stress.

The aim and culmination of yoga is the sight of the soul, but it has a lot of side effects which are  health, happiness, peace and poise. Iyengar Yoga goes beyond the physical being to embrace emotional and spiritual growth. As students learn to extend awareness to each part of their body, they begin to explore the limitless potential of the mind and the soul. The two quests of the physical and the spiritual are not separate but parts of a complementary approach to self-realization and enlightenment.

All teachers at the BKS Iyengar Yoga Studio of Dallas are certified in the Iyengar method. Many have decades of teaching experience.
